Marketing official from Xbox in regards to Xbox Series S and future announcements

The Series S is an insane value

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 09:20 AM PDT

There's something about cramming as much performance as possible into a low pricepoint that gets me going even if I am not buying the hardware. Last week when Nvidia revealed their new GPUs people were going "Xbox doomed, build PC" and while I have moved to PC, I respect ALL brands and new graphics cards absolutely do not doom consoles (You have to buy the rest of the components other than the GPU).

For $300 you are getting a small system that plays games at 1440p, with ray tracing enabled, and possibly at 60 fps depending on if the dev gives choices. You are not building a PC that even touches this thing for even $500 and even then, did you factor in the $60 Xbox controller? Windows? Keyboard/Mouse? Wi-Fi card? How good are the parts that are being used? Is it future proof?

Really the only thing "wrong" with this is the small SSD but that is what I'd do for a budget build as well. Games are going to NEED an SSD pretty soon and they had to cram one in for $300 somehow and that's another thing - you are getting an SSD with it for only $300.

This is the best deal in gaming right here, pair it with game pass ultimate and you are set. I believe this will be the console that really sells and perhaps Microsoft knows this very well. They wanted a low-cost console to make up for the Series X likely being $500 which is the absolute maximum unspoken rule for console pricing.

I was a little worried for Microsoft after Halo was delayed but they'll be just fine. Most games that people play are third party anyways and the first party games are coming.

Edit: Someone is saying that third parties will abandon the Series S. The Series S is just a less powerful Series X on the GPU and Ram side. This is the equivalent of buying an RTX 2060 over a 2070 TI (outdated cards now, but the 2060 I think is closer to the Series S than the 3060 will be). You'll simply run games at a lower resolution. The CPU and SSD are what matter here in terms of future-proofing.

I gotta say, tip of my hat to whoever’s in charge of the Xbox Series S “leaks”. This has been great marketing

When the Series S controllers started popping up, I was 100% convinced they let them leak on purpose to get people talking.

Exact same thing with the "Xbox Series X/S" advertising on Gamepass inserts a few weeks ago.

No way they didn't feed this Series S pricing to Brad Sams. They either gave it to him or "oops, we left this here, hope nobody shows it to everyone".

Whether you like the series S concept and price or you don't, Microsoft has the whole world talking without actually saying a word. Now they have the spotlight back.

And, they were able to gauge consumer's reactions without being locked into anything. (They obviously liked it as they confirmed it today).

    Very clever marketing.

Xbox Series S for £250 is an extremely enticing proposition for the UK market - big brain strategy by Xbox here.

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 01:43 PM PDT

At this price point I can see Xbox getting a foothold in the next-gen competition for sales and UK market share; people will see £250 (very low entry price point) + next-gen and buy it either for themselves or their children this Holiday season.

The casual market will likely not care nor notice the difference in specs when compared to its competitor or the Series X, and with disposable income likely becoming tighter as the year goes on due to the recession, this makes the Series S a very enticing prospect indeed.

After FF7 added to GamePass, I stumbled upon this amazing menu to that allows you to easily swap out and manage all Materias in one screen. It's just that, it took me 22 years to realized this was a thing. I used to waste so much time to unequip/reequip and PHS to call buddies in and out.
