[AMA] We're the team behind story-based game Road to Guangdong... ask us anything!

    Hello r/Xboxone,

We're u/darbotron (programmer/designer) and u/yenooi (writer/narrative designer) from Just Add Oil, and we're here to talk about our upcoming game, Road to Guangdong.

Road to Guangdong is a narrative driving game set in 1990s Guangdong. With beautiful art and awesome music, the game balances driving and car maintenance elements with story puzzles around Sunny, her Guu Ma (oldest paternal aunt) and their family. You can collect secret recipes and depending on how you play the game, you might even see Sunny and her whole family come together at the Spring Festival reunion dinner.

The game is set for launch on 28 August, but the demo is playable now in the Xbox Summer Game Fest Demo Event.

    Watch the trailer here: https://youtu.be/8E-wcWYzhps

Do come and ask us anything about Road to Guangdong or about making video games in general. We'll be around for an hour from 4pm BST til 5pm BST (8am-9am PDT) today, 24 July.

    Thanks!

Ok, well our time is up now.
Thanks on behalf of the whole team for the questions, we hope you enjoy playing Road to Guangdong as much as we enjoyed making it!

    Take care & stay safe!

Console Only Player Excited For Series X

    Posted: 24 Jul 2020 10:50 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

I wanted to make this post, because in most subreddits a lot of people are saying that there's no need for an Xbox One Series X, since they already have a PC.

I wanted to share my side, someone who doesn't want to game on a PC, but a console. Someone who will be getting a Series X and PS5 when they launch.

I used to play PC games (with a controller and TV) a lot up to 2015 when I realized I spent more time adjusting settings (a little OCD I guess, which is my fault), fixing frame rate, frame time, micro stuttering issues than actually playing the game.

The PC platform will always be superior, but after a long work day, I just want to have a plug and play experience that Microsoft and Sony can offer with their systems. I don't want to check subreddits on why I'm having issues with a certain game and what the fix for that is. The worst one I remember was microstuttering in The Division 2, Ubisoft finally fixed the issue 2 months after the game launched. A lot of time wasted trying to figure that one out. I know that a lot of PC players have a phenomenal time with their systems. And that's one great thing about Microsoft's approach, offering an ecosystem and not just a system. So people can choose where to play their games. 2015 might also just have been just a bad driver/software year for my pc.

I'm excited for Halo, Flight Simulator, Age of Empires, Forza and so on. And the Xbox One Series X will be able to deliver on those games without worrying about settings or other software/driver related issues that might pop up.

As a Sony fan, I really appreciate what MS has done

    Posted: 24 Jul 2020 10:38 AM PDT

I will always be a Sony fan. My first ever console was a PS2 and that generation was absolutely glorious. I have owned every Sony console since, and even dabbled with with the Xbox camp when I purchased a 360 back in its prime days.

With that said, I watched MS's most recent showcase to see what the fuss was about.

    Good lord.

Gamepass is probably the best deal in gaming right now. MS has me here wishing Sony would do something similar. I don't mind forking up full retail price for Sony IP's that I've come to grow with and love, but I certainly wouldn't pass up the opportunity to be able to play those PlayStation games on day one, for $15 per month.

And another unbelievable tidbit was how some of those games were available to play on Gamepass then and there. Like imagine going to E3, having your favorite dev do a reveal, and finish up with "AVAILABLE NOW". Geez man.

What I hope comes out of this is that Sony pursues a similar model. Even if it's priced slightly higher I would jump on it in a heartbeat. I still feel very indifferent about Xbox in general, but I cannot deny how an insanely incredible deal Gamepass is. If I can play the next Naughty Dog game, God of War, or HZD game day one via a cheap sub, it would feel like daylight robbery. But i would certainly welcome it.

I truly hope Sony does something similar to Gamepass in the near future and it would only further cement my loyalty to Sony. Thanks MS for pushing the boundaries and hopefully Sony will react with a similar service.

    **tl,dr: i want a Gamepass-like service on PlayStation"
