Posted: 09 Sep 2021 11:17 AM PDT Surviving Mars has mod support and players have created mods to instantly unlock all the achievements. You don't have to play the game in any capacity. This was kind of a big deal for people when it was on Game Pass because all you had to do was download the game, install the mod, and enjoy your free 1000 gamerscore. Several months after this was discovered, a DLC pack came out. The game was still on Game Pass though, so anybody who wanted to maintain this completion (or directly buy some more gamerscore) could spend $20 and use an updated mod to unlock all of those achievements. Then the game left Game Pass. Fast forward to this week. Another new DLC pack has been released. This one also costs $20. But since the game is no longer on Game Pass, anybody who wants this completion now has to purchase the game AND this DLC pack so they can use an updated mod to again unlock all of the new achievements instantly. I know that achievement hunters are a small subset of the gaming population, and I am one, but there are different facets to achievement hunting. Going to any lengths to increase a number isn't my interest – I'm more interested in quality completions that require some effort. But whatever. Everybody enjoys different things. I find this Surviving Mars situation fascinating, though. It's basically as close as we've ever been to being able to buy gamerscore. Sure, there have always been easy/fast completions, and those are snowballing lately to where there's tons and tons of games that allow you to get a 1000 gamerscore completion in minutes. But being able to pay for a game and extra content that you don't even have to play to get all of the gamerscore is just wild to me. It's sort of like buying food and just throwing it out without eating it. I can't wrap my head around it. [link] [comments] | ||
