Totally clueless guy hoping to get advice regarding Dolby/DTS comparison for his Arctis 9x that he just got to go with his Series X.

    Posted: 15 May 2021 03:10 PM PDT

I'm hoping to get some advice regarding different sound enhancement software for headphones on Xbox as I'm completely out of my element with this, any help at all would be appreciated.

I recently got the Steelseries Arctis 9x for my Xbox Series X and, while it sounds nice, it didn't blow me away like I was hoping.

I went ahead and bought Dolby, as I accidentally activated the trial a while ago and that's the only sound enhancement software I've heard of, but then I saw DTS and am torn after trying both.

What's the main difference between the two? Do some games benefit from one over the other more? Would my headphones work with one better than the other? Can I tweak settings in the app to customize it more to my taste? The DTS app doesn't seem to have a lot of features.

I've looked around on the subreddit for comparisons between them and most seem to favor DTS and after trying it out I can see why.

After trying it in Siege, I believe I prefer DTS as the shots sounded a lot more powerful, like they had more punch and bass to them. In contrast, for the shots sounded somewhat flat with Dolby.

However, I tried DTS in Mortal Kombat 11, and some of the sounds would get really sharp and hurt my ears a bit.

I also tried it in Subnautica. With Dolby, I was able to hear all the sealife clearly and the music was noticable but in the background. It was actually really less. With DTS, the music was very loud and intense, drowning (no pun intended) everything else out. I had to lower the music setting to 40 to be able to hear everything else, and even then it felt like everything had more...impact, maybe?

If I had to put it, it feels like Dolby might feel a little more natural, with more subdued sounds, while DTS feels a bit more cinematic to me with a lot of punch.

Any help or feedback at all would be associated. I'm in way over my head here and am just hoping to get some kick-ass sound to go with with my new kick-ass console.

    Thank you for your time!

Is console in-game audio worst than PC’s?

    Posted: 15 May 2021 03:40 PM PDT

TLDR: When playing I have extreme difficulty with hearing in-game audio like footsteps and subtle detail compared to explosions but when I watch steamers and youtubers with apparently the same audio settings, I hear everything and I feel like they are playing a completely different game.

I use an Astro Mixamp and have the USB plugged into my PC (discord) and the optical cord into my console (game audio)

For those who might ask, I have played with USB and optical cord both being attached to the console to see if that was hindering my audio some how and that was it's own mess but didn't improve. I've also adjusted EQ settings within the amp but even in cases where it does boost footstep audio, it always simultaneously boost something else at the same time that ends up drowning out the footsteps anyways.

I've been dealing with this for months now and it's got to a point where I'm just at a disadvantage all the time and I can tell my teammates are getting annoyed now.

One weird observation: Even when I watch MY OWN gameplay that I recorded through the console's DVR feature the game sounds different. Does the DVR feature use the game default audio settings? Or does it record what you have it set to?

Am I doing something wrong? Is using this particular set up hindering me? Or is this all come down to hardware?

    Thanks for any responses.

Button remapping always syncing to all controller

    Posted: 15 May 2021 10:38 PM PDT

Hello, I want to remap some buttons but the configuration always synchronizes to all controllers although the configuration in the settings is only set on one controller. What am I doing wrong?

I configured a profile with a different button mapping and set it on just one controller as valid. In the configuration I can clearly see that just this controller shows the different button mapping on the controller graphic.
