On its own, Game Pass removes a lot of risk factors that a player would normally weigh when debating with themselves whether to try a new game. Perhaps I'm interested in playing Wasteland 3, but 70 dollars to own the game forever is a big commitment. What if it turns out I don't like the game? Then I'd be spending money I'd never get back. In comes Game Pass, allowing me to theoretically demo the game (and 100s of other games) for a whole month for just 15 dollars. This is great, and serves as a nice spiritual successor to the game demos that used to prevail over the industry. But now, I'm faced with another problem. Say I'm interested in playing Flight Simulator on my PC. I have free access to it through my Ultimate subscription, but its install size is 127GB. I don't have enough room on my PC, and I'll have to uninstall a couple other games to make space. And what if it turns out I don't like the game? Well, great, I just spent all that time downloading this new game, and now I'll have to go and reinstall my old games again if I want them back. In these situations, xCloud could really shine. I could try out flight simulator all from the comfort of a browser window on my PC, without having to worry about storage issues, install times, etc.. Streaming to the mobile app is cool and all, but a lot of the games on Game Pass aren't really suited to be experienced on such a tiny screen. Bringing xCloud to PC, Xbox, and Smart TVs could be a real game-changer, and I hope Microsoft plans on rolling it out sooner rather than later.
