    XBox One X Internal SSD - Quick write-up with some up to date resources

    I know these posts come up every now and again, but when I searched for them they were old or were missing links to actual updated guides, so I figured I'd post.

    I grabbed one of these:

    I have a 512 SSD external attached to the X1X and it performs really well, but I wanted more SSD space. I have experience in electronic maintenance so I didn't think it would be too bad after looking at all the resources. I also wanted to see what a difference it would make on the internal drive.

    The whole procedure took about 5 to 10 minutes of getting the drive formatted correctly. I didn't bother cloning the old drive since I read that the procedure could take forever, and I was curious to see how the Xbox would work with a clean drive. It took another 30 to 40 minutes to swap out the drive. The hardest part was just keeping track of what screw goes where, but following the ifixit guide and using a big clean work area helps with that. You will absolutely want a quality T9 driver, precision tweezers, and a steady hand.

    After I got it done, I powered it up and the screen was black for a few minutes. It made the doodeedoo sound and the XBox logo was lit up, but there was just nothing displayed. Naturally, I panicked a little bit but as I was googling for what the hell to do next and dreading having to open it back up, the home screen came up and everything worked just fine.

    And holy shit, the home screen flies now. Every app opens up the way an XBox One X should. Moving the cursor around doesn't feel all laggy and crappy anymore. Thumbnails load in almost instantly. Yes, I've reset the home screen before, cleared the bluray storage, and even factory reset when things felt slow, but the home screen and everything else still never moved this fast. I don't have a capture card to show how fast it is or measure it, but the difference is huge to me. I'm sure there's some youtube videos that demonstrate this somewhere.

    In conclusion, I'd say this mod is not for the faint of heart. The X1X has no shortage of T9 screws and some pretty dainty connectors/ribbon cables in it, but I highly recommend this if you have the skills, tools and money for it. I am extremely happy with how it turned out.

    I haven't seen much talk about this. Green Cities is free on ps4 and is supposed to be free on Xbox as well. Initially they said there was an issue with making it free but it's been resolved, however here we are a few days from the end of the promotion, and Xbox Green Cities is still showing a price

    I originally got a Xbox One S, recently, to play some old games that I've wanted to revisit or just games I missed out on. I didn't except how I would be spending so many hours a day playing it like I was a kid again or how many games I have bought on this console again, some I owned on PC and some on PS4.

    I have became a full Xbox fan boy in the matter of a month. The backwards compatibility, Smart Delivery, Game Pass, xCloud. All these things are really going to keep me on team Xbox.
