Xbox One - What is Game Pass Game Club?

Xbox One - What is Game Pass Game Club?

What is Game Pass Game Club?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 01:14 PM PST

    Hey all!

Some of you might know me from r/GamePassGameClub but almost all of you probably don't, I'm DirrtiusMaximus or my Xbox name/GT is Corkenstein. Myself, u/Kelph1, u/ImRakey, u/Candiman8 and the creator of GPGC u/ctan0312 are excited to bring GPGC to you all over here at r/xboxone!! For those who don't know what Game Pass Game Club is, once a month YOU the community get to vote for one Game Pass game from a randomized selection games which we all will play for an entire month! During this month we will have discussion threads, wikis for acheivements/guides, streams, hopefully some AMAs, and potential giveaways(more about that later).

Its our goal to create something that can get everyone involved by either playing games they may have never given a chance or playing games they love and discussing them. Don't forget all content is also being hosted if you're looking for a dedicated spot on r/GamePassGameClub! Side discussion is allowed in both subreddits, but we like to give folks options.

Also in the discussion threads we ask if you could respect that not everyone will be on the same page in the storylines. We ask if you could use spoiler tags when talking about things happening in the story/game. Don't be that guy, posting intentional spoilers will lead to a ban!. To use a spoiler tag either use the handy dandy fancy editor bar or for us old fashioned Redditors or those on mobile, useond, third, or more chance with this method. Voting will usually run for a few days and end a day or two before we are about to start the next game. This is done to gives you guys plenty of time to download the game before we start!

To start off we will do the voting thread as mentioned above. We will have 5 games from the Game Pass catalogue that are randomly chosen and only 1 can be voted on. The two runner ups from last months voting will be included in the new months voting to ensure we aren't passing over largely requested games. Your vote still matters regardless if yours wasn't the winning choice. You potentially have a second, third, or more chance with this method. Voting will usually run for a few days and end a day or two before we are about to start the next game. This is done to gives you guys plenty of time to download the game before we start!t!

Once you have decided on which game is our GotM, we will release a living wiki for that game. This wiki will be stickied and contain info about the game, its achievements, guides, and links to the discussion thread/s(Possibly multiple if chapter based). This will constantly be updated with new guides, or information regarding the GotM through out the month.

Next up are the discussion threads! In these threads you all get to talk about what you like for the game as well as what you didn't like. Its 100% ok to not like a game or something about the game selected for the month. They all can't be Greatest of all Time winners like 1982's ET The Game right? Right....? All we ask is that when discussing it, you do it constructively! Give reasons why you didn't like a feature or mechanic. Simply saying, "This sucks" isn't going to drive a conversation.

Also in the discussion threads we ask if you could respect that not everyone will be on the same page in the storylines. We ask if you could use spoiler tags when talking about things happening in the story/game. Don't be that guy, posting intentional spoilers will lead to a ban!. To use a spoiler tag either use the handy dandy fancy editior bar or for us old fashioned Redditors or those on mobile, use

    >!Spoiler goes here!<

So it should look something like this, After one hour and 55 minutes of complaining, ET finally goes home

"But Dirrtius, I have already finished the game or played this game! What do I do?" Well young Billy, we will also have a spoiler post so you can go ham without the need for spoiler tags! Those discussions will clearly be labelled as spoilers and assigned with flairs.

That in a nutshell is GPGC! Their will be opportunities to expand on this idea/concept/project in the future but we wanted to start off easy and see how this works in a bigger environment.

And once again, let me do this one more time, r/GamePassGameClub!

I fixed my Xbox One controller joystick drift (and prevented it from happening again)! Here is how I did it.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 07:10 PM PST

I fixed my Xbox One controller joystick drift (and prevented it from happening again)! Here is how I did it.

    Backstory:

I'm a typical FPS gamer, I mainly play Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Destiny, so I have to press down on the left joystick to sprint. However, I found that pressing down on it too much can lead to the deterioration of the joystick module and result in drift.

I had my first Xbox One controller for about a year (I didn't play as frequently then) until I heard this weird crack in my controller while I was playing one day. Over time, when I would press down on the left joystick, it would sound like one of the inner components was scraping against sandpaper and my left joystick's input would occasionally act wonky when left on its own or not respond when I try moving it. I looked up a few "quick and easy" fixes that didn't involve soldering or opening up the controller, but to no avail. (Those videos on using rubbing alcohol are bullshit. Those videos are only meant for the grimiest of gamers to clean the gunk out of their controllers, which wasn't the problem for me.)

In the past decade that I have played on Microsoft's consoles, I have never encountered a single issue with any of my four Xbox 360 controllers and they still work to this day, so I assumed I got a shitty Xbox One controller and decided to buy another one brand new from Amazon. I tried treating this one even more delicately (as if I didn't from the start). Meanwhile, I set my hesitations aside and decided to consider fixes that involved opening up the controller, and I found one. I tried applying this fix to my 1st controller, but it only made the issue worse as the person in the video instructed me to tear off what I soon learned was a vital piece of the module. The only reason I went with his suggestion of tearing it off was because the grey panel was already broken in half by the time I opened the controller, but this was still a bad idea.

Roughly 6 months later, my 2nd controller gets joystick drift. Naturally, I got pissed, but before caving into buying another controller, I remembered the guy in the aforementioned video saying how other guides recommended gluing the grey panel. So, I opened up the controller, and I noticed the panel was wobbling whenever I moved the joystick, so I glued it to the module using Krazy glue. I figured "that oughta do it," but of course it didn't quite fix the drift. The drift was somewhat tolerable, but it was still noticeable when I played certain games. I decided to give it time and see if what I did actually fixed it. After about 3 months, I concluded that there was no further deterioration in the controller. This led me to believe that it was just that one frail piece that had to be glued into place to prevent deterioration of the joystick module from the beginning.

That's why I decided to buy a 3rd controller, so I could immediately open it up and glue the flimsy plastic piece and never have to deal with joystick drift or have to open my controller ever again. In the meantime, I tried searching online for threads or posts regarding the Xbox One joystick module to see if there were any other solutions/diagnoses that could point to the root of stick drift in hopes of fixing my 2nd controller.

Many people said to just replace the joystick component and considered that a "permanent" solution, but I was against this because it involved soldering and buying another $5+ joystick module somewhere on the internet, which was impossible since the original manufacturer of the joystick modules used in Xbox One controllers is untraceable and I didn't want to use third-party modules because the input or dead zones might not be the same. The other reason I was not feeling comfortable with the soldering solution was because a lot of general "fix-it" guides just say to use a soldering iron, solder sucker, and solder without going into much further detail. As of then, that was the only viable solution I could find to "fixing" joystick drift.

However, I came across a better tutorial that took a different approach: replacing the sensors inside the joystick module.
If you don't already know, a joystick module has two sensors in it: one that tracks vertical movement of the joystick and one that tracks horizontal movement of the joystick. This is where these sensors are generally located on the module:

    https://preview.redd.it/ukki877xk6j41.jpg?width=738&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=959d32c1e79132a4a94c45409b0bc234beb56cee

So, I had to find another working joystick module to take its sensors out and replace them with the broken ones in my 2nd controller. Fortunately, the module on my 1st controller's right joystick was perfectly intact, so I took both of its sensors out.

Defunct vertical sensor from my 2nd controller's left joystick is on the left while the undamaged sensor from my 1st controller's right joystick module is on the right.

Discoloration had no effect on the sensors, and I couldn't quite distinguish any compelling difference between the two sensors that resulted in one suffering from drift. However, I opened up my 1st controller and took out the vertical sensor from the left joystick to compare to the vertical sensor in the right joystick and the differences were pretty obvious.

The frayed vertical sensor from the 1st controller's left joystick is on the left and the working vertical sensor from the 1st controller's right joystick is on the right.

Keep in mind, the stick drift on my 1st controller was far more severe than on my 2nd controller.

After I replaced the vertical sensor in my 2nd controller, I reassembled my controller and fired up Destiny 1. (Yes, I still play Destiny 1.) The drift was gone except for some horizontal drift that was barely noticeable, but I didn't bother opening up the controller to replace one more sensor, especially since I accidentally detached my right rumble motor in the previous disassembly. (On the plus side, vibration is actually better as it doesn't feel like there's an earthquake inside my controller.)

It has been nearly 2 years since I encountered and eliminated joystick drift on my 2nd controller, and it hasn't come back ever since! (I ended up using my 3rd controller for PC gaming since it was a pain having to reconfigure a single controller for each platform.)

So, in regards to stick drift...

    What exactly is stick drift?

It's a widely known issue that results one or more of your controller's joysticks to continue moving in a particular direction without touching it.

    What controller I had:

Standard Xbox One controller (the 2016 version with bluetooth)

    How I fixed it:

By replacing the sensors inside the joystick modules. This required having at least two perfect sensors either from a controller that did not get stick drift or from a separately purchased joystick module. (In my case, mine was from a previous controller that was like new/undamaged.) Opened up my controller with a flathead screwdriver (size) and pretty much just followed this tutorial. If you already know how to open up your controller, skip to 4:31 of the video. It demonstrates the process better visually than I can textually.

    • The housing opposite to the grey panel reads vertical input and the adjacent one reads horizontal input. Depending on what direction your joystick is drifting in, you may end up needing (or wanting) to replace both sensors.

    How I prevented it:

By only taking the controller's faceplate off and gluing this grey piece to the side of the joystick module with Krazy glue. Waited at least half an hour for the glue to dry (just to be safe). Moved the stick around to see if the panel still wobbled, which it didn't.
NOTE: If the controller is brand new, this piece might not be wobbly at first, but it's safer to glue it down even if it isn't wobbling. Also, the grey panel should not be cracked or have any missing pieces.

    • Use glue only around the edges of the grey piece.
    • If you're using some kind of thin, runny glue, don't use too much or else it might seep into the module and mess things up even more.

Shoutout to XQ Gaming for the video on replacing joystick sensors!

Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any damages you cause to your controllers whether that be due to attempted fixes or throwing them across the room in frustration.

TL;DR: Gluing down one little piece of the joystick module prevents further deterioration of the joystick and future joystick drift. Furthermore, to fix a controller that is currently suffering from joystick drift, all you need to do is replace the sensors within the modules.

My X has been out of warranty for a while now so I decided to open it up and deal with the unbearably loud fan. When I had it all disassembled I decided I might as well replace the thermal paste too and saw this. Is it normal for the paste to spread that far? Can it cause damage?

    Ninja Gaiden II is awesome.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 05:35 AM PST

Never played it back in the day and holy hell so this the perfect mixture of hard and fun. Reminds me of the Souls games. If you die it's because you fucked up or haven't learned enough moves yet, not because the game is cheap. The controls are so crisp and while the camera can be wonky sometimes it's not super-annoying. Loving trying out all the weapons and the music just gets your blood racing.

    That is all.

Any Way to Fix the Issues I’m Having With my Controller?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 10:26 PM PST

    Hi, guys.

I know you all get these questions a lot, but I swear I've searched and my search terms must be garbage because I plain cannot find a solution to my issue.

I am using a wireless Xbox controller, but have it connected via a usb cable, and well, the only way I can get the darn thing to work is if I press down on the part of the cable that goes into the controller. I pressed down on that part of the cable and my controller works perfectly. I stop pressing down on it and it disconnects.

Here's a picture of the connector.

The connector doesn't look damaged to me, but then again I am new to X-Box so I have an untrained eye with this stuff.

I just got it a week or two ago, but the place I got it from has a zero exception return policy since it was so cheap.

I bought it for $20 and I was assured up and down it was lightly used and fully functional.

So, am I out $20 here?

Any help would be super appreciated.
