How much money did Game Pass save me?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 01:30 PM PST

On this sub a lot of people are talking about the value of Game Pass, or how they never need to buy games now because of it. And don't get me wrong - personally I'm in the very same boat! I love Game Pass! The truth is that I actually bought an Xbox One just for it, I'm primarily a PS4 player, but saw a lot of great games coming to Game Pass and decided to hop aboard. So far I've been very happy with my decision, but I started thinking: Did I actually save money with this? Or was there basically no difference between getting the games with a subscription or paying for them, and the console? Well, what better way to prove that than with an objective test! I mostly conducted it for myself, but I figured you might be interested in the results as well.

I bought a used Xbox One for 115 euro on August 9th of last year. In addition, I bought a second controller (used as well) for 30 euro, and I bought 2 years of Xbox Live (to convert to Game Pass with the $1 offer) for $110, with the difference in currency being because I live in the EU, but have a US account. Converted to euro, $111 is almost exactly 100 euro. So in order to break even, I need to have saved at least 245 euro on games I got from Game Pass.

But here's the thing - you can't save money on games you weren't going to buy anyway, right? I played through the entire Master Chief Collection, but not because I'm all that into Halo, but because I needed a decent co-op game to play with my friend. Even though it's available on Steam, I probably wasn't going to buy it anyway, so it'd be very disingenuous to say that I've "saved" however much it costs on Steam by playing it on Game Pass. I wasn't gonna buy it in the first place! So let's establish some ground rules on what games can be included in this experiment:

    1. The game must be something that I have an actual interest in, and had at some point on my PS4 wishlist;
    2. The game must be available to buy on PS4; Xbox exclusives don't count (not even if they're only console exclusives and available on PC)

In addition, I'm a very sales-conscious person - I don't have a lot of money, and I generally try to save up and look out for sales before committing. So in that case even though, say, Devil May Cry V costs 50 euro on PSN at the moment, I probably wasn't going to spend that much on it, most likely I was going to wait for a good sale before getting it. So with that in mind, I used psdeals.net to look up every game on the list, and only listed the lowest price that they were ever available at. Of course, this is rather optimistic, since it implies that, had I not bought my Xbox I'd have always bought these games for the lowest price they were ever at as of this moment, but for the sake of the experiment let's go with that. This is the list of games I came up with, alongside the lowest price they were ever at in euro:

    A Plague Tale Innocence 25
    Afterparty 20
    Devil May Cry V 20
    Frostpunk 20
    GRIS 16
    Guacamelee 2 5
    Indivisible 25
    Jump Force 30
    Lego Movie Videogame 12
    Middle-Earth Shadow of War 17
    Monster Hunter World 15
    Outer Wilds 23
    Remnant From Ashes 28
Shadow of the Tomb Raider 24
    Shenmue I & II 15
    Tekken 7 10
    The Talos Principle 5
    Timespinner 20
    Vampyr 20
    We Happy Few 32
Wolfenstein II The New Colossus 11
    Wolfenstein The New Order 4

The total amount of money these games would cost had I bought them at their lowest ever price is 397 euro. Earlier we established that it cost me 245 euro to get an Xbox, a second controller and 2 years of Game Pass, which means that as of this moment, a little over 6 months after getting my Xbox, I've saved 152 euro by buying my Xbox. And of course this doesn't include all of the exclusives I got to experience or all of the smaller indie titles I was never interested in, but really enjoyed after trying them out. Or the remaining 18 months of free games I still have on my subscription. Obviously this won't last forever, at some point the promotion will end and the Game Pass subscription will hike up in price to about double what I paid (I expect the regular Game Pass will be about 100 euro a year), but even then if the quality of games remains consistent I'll still end up saving money.

Bottom line, while I was always more than happy with Game Pass, it wasn't until I actually put the numbers together that I realized just how good it actually is. Here's hoping it keeps going just as strong next gen!

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 06:11 PM PST

Comprehensive list of mods that add new quests or questing locations to Skyrim. Comment if I missed any. I'll rate them if I've played them personally, but this is mostly to create a list for posterity.

    -Project AHO (7/10, long)

-The Gray Cowl Of Nocturnal -bigger one-

-Gray Cowl of Nocturnal -smaller one-

-Undeath Remastered (6/10 fun but broke for me)

    -Wheels of Lull

    -Mythic Dawn Expansion

    -The Marshlands (9/10 immersion, short)

    -Isle of Storm

    -The Brotherhood of Old

    -Konahrik's Accoutrements

    -Relicment

    -Orange Moon (9/10, short-medium)

    -Randalflaught (6/10 good, short)

    -Vrage's Watch

    -The Rabbit Hole (6/10, medium)

    -Slayr's Dungeon

    -Fort Castellum (7/10, short-medium)

    -Frostfaarn

    -Carved Brink

    -Faction: Pit Fighter (5/10, medium)

-Folkstead and the Border of Hammerfell

-Nyhus and the Border of Cyrodiil

-Haafstad and the Border of High Rock

    -Borderlands of Skyrim

    -Temple of Time; Kokiri's Valley

    -Aler'ai

-Revenge of Dagoth-Ur (7.5/10 cool enemies, medium)

    -The Path of Transcendence

    -The Tyranny of Aurbis

    Bonus mentions:

-Tel Nalta (9/10 buildable Telvanni tower & village, but has bugs, instability, but mainly it's not compatible with Moon And Star.)

-The Seaside Library (no quest, but libraries scattered around Skyrim, lots of detail and all the books in Skyrim and from past Elder Scrolls games. Couldn't find books added by Dragonborn DLC though)

End note: If anyone has modding experience, I'd appreciate it if someone ported the Tel Nalta + Moon and Star Compatibility Patch from Nexus. I don't know how to do it else I would.

Setting up Samsung TV remote to work with xbox one

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 07:35 AM PST

So I've seen this post before but there wasn't a solution listed. That post is locked. So I decide to post the solution here. I struggled to setup my xbox one s with my Samsung TV and the videos and post I found didn't seem to help...

    1. Click on the universal remote setup
    2. ...Blu-ray player
    3. TV (or HTS if it's hooked up to that)
    4. Scroll and select XBOX
    5. Do the test multiple times til the search model option appears.
    6. Type "Xbox"
    7. At this point you can try some of the options like Xbox one media remote but none of these worked for me. So at this screen scroll down to view more model numbers.
    8. This screen list Xbox one and Xbox one X and that should do the trick.

I hope this helps someone out there and saves you some time.

What is the state of Just Cause 4 on Xbox One

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 06:29 AM PST

How is Just Cause 4 nowadays. Is it buggy? Frequent frame drops (as in JC3)? What more information can you provide for someone who played only Just Cause 2 a few years ago? Thanks in advance.

Activity Feed broken for anyone else?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 04:01 AM PST

Good afternoon lads, I've been having this issue with my activity feed for a week now.

Its stuck on 5 days ago and it's not updating not on my profile feed nor the general activity feed

I tried every solution possible and it worked for 5 minutes and went back to the old stuck post

Was wondering if anyone is dealing with the same issue and if anyone has a solution. Thank you
