    Your friendly moderator here. This is an FYI that the Giveaway below posted 5 days ago in r/xbox was a big scam:

    The poster gave nothing away and never intended to. The 3 "winners" are alt sockpuppet accounts belonging to the OP. He also made a different but similar giveaway post in /r/playstation (screenshot) and he chose the same 3 "winners". In fact, if you sort the comments in the /r/Xbox giveaway thread by NEW, you can see the winners posted their entries 3 days after the contest ended - and only AFTER I sent a modmail message to the giveaway poster asking him to post the winners names.

    We have banned the poster/scammer, after which he PM'ed us to brag that he did it for Karma (upvotes). Over 700 people posted comments in that giveaway thread and most also unknowingly fed him upvotes karma points. He used you.

    If you were someone who entered that r/xbox contest from last week or upvoted it, could you take a few seconds to remove your upvote? It will at least help undo whatever reward the scammer thinks he got.

    To be clear: I am not asking or telling anyone to make a new vote. Asking for votes is against Reddit's rules and TOS. Again, do not make a new vote up or down! I am asking you to REMOVE your previous upvote in this one r/xbox post only if you were fraudulently duped into making it last week. If we learn of any brigading or retaliation made against any users, we will take action against you.

    Additionally, if in the future you see a giveaway post of something with a substantial value - please be wary that it might turn out to be fake. Do not give the poster any upvotes or buy the poster Reddit Gold unless and until an actual winner is selected and the contest is proven to be genuine. This is not the first time that a phony scam contest has been posted to r/xbox.

    When I plug my hard drive into my Xbox it doesn't read or get recognized but when I plug it into my pc it is able to be read. I looked online for answers on how to fix my hard drive so I can play my downloaded games but to no avail now I sit here on my PC looking for answers anyone know how to fix it? Side note I've updated my Xbox reset it completely powered down and even switched ports nothing seemed to work

    Xbox live codes not working

    So I been trying to get Xbox live but Everytime I enter a code it doesn't enter and I tried 2 different codes already....however I can use the money gift cards and they work fine. I looked at subscriptions and it said that the gift cards are paying the past subscription but it ended Nov 15...I tried canceling and turning off re occur billing and that did not work it said try again later...any ideas

    Need some advice (a little long sorry)

    So my Xbox one has been broken for about 3 months so I've had to resort to playing on my Ps4. I haven't really missed it but I do still love the games I do have on my Xbox. I preferably don't want to have to rebuy games that I have already on Xbox (I've already done so a little bit with R6 and GTA). It's frustrating mainly because I had the Project Scorpio version of the X. I'm out of warranty so I have no guarantee of getting the same one back. I'm just wondering if I should save up wait until the Scarlet comes out next year or buy a new One X now.

    TL;DR: Project Scorpio One X broke, having small withdrawals, buy a new one now or save up for Scarlet?

    Pre-stage a download game before buying?

    I'd like to buy my kid the download version of Borderlands 3 for Christmas but since we're on rural wireless internet, our speeds SUCK for big downloads. I don't want him stuck with disc swapping but also don't want him stuck waiting until next Christmas to actually get to play from the download. Most decent games take at least a full day or two (sometimes a few or more) to download..

    Short of buying the game twice, is there any way I can stage the download on my console then Christmas day activate it on his account then copy from my console to his? He's (barely) old enough to play so he's more than old enough to figure out if I buy it for him early..

    Soundblaster g6, sennheiser hd58x, modmic5, xbox - partychat war

    I am currently trying to use my setup and play in a party.

    XBOX, sound blaster g6, modmic 5, sennheiser hd58x

    I have looked and there seems to be one large problem. Greedy MS and its officially licensed microphones or no usb support.

    Does anyone have a current work around on this? If so please let me know how you do it. I have many splitters and cables. I have read the instructables post but also see that MS may have released a patch preventing the method from working.

    [CONFUSION]

    I recently upgraded to an xbox one x from my original xbox one. Opted for the external hard drive route. Im not too good at this stuff but im pretty sure I copied all my games to the hard drive and when i plugged it into the new console and tried to copy it to internal it proceeded to do so using network transfer. Is this normal, did i mess it up. Thought the idea of the hard drive option meant there would be no slow network transfer.

    Title. Is this possible? I downloaded a image, and went to go on file explorer.. and it's gone. After looking into it I now know it was removed because of limited usage. However, will I still be able to set a custom wallpaper? This sucks,

    Cant hear a certain friend when joining xbox party

    So to add a little bit of background information:

    I have been using xbox voice chat for a long time and it has always been working fine.

    So last saturday me and F1 (friend 1) want to play a game together so we go into an xbox party. Whenever either of us joined the party we heared eachother for a brief moment but then we didnt hear eachother. Everytime I talked the circle around my picture would light up showing that my mic is working. We figured out it must be an error in the party so lets play another day.

    Fast forward to today:

    This time we have F2 (friend 2) aswell. F1 and F2 can hear and talk to eachother perfectly fine and then when I joined me and F2 could hear F1 only for a brief moment until we couldnt hear him anymore. So its basicly whenever I join nobody can hear or talk to F1 anymore (he could only hear us for a brief moment when I joined) and I could hear and talk to F2 all the time.

    Any way I can fix this?

    Edit: I am on pc and both of myfriends are on xbox

    Xbox Controller Issues

    I have two xbox one controllers that have issues. The first will randomly loose connection to the xbox, blink a few times and reconnect all on its own. Irritating to be 5 to 10 seconds down while it does this. The second controller doesn't have normal stick drift, it is like a full press of the stick to all the way to the left. Are these both things that I can clean it to get rid of or are my controllers toast?

    Bug in Microsoft Rewards

    I'm unable to get some of my rewards even if I have concluded the objectives. One of these say that I have to gain "a achievement" in one of the listed games. I have plenty in Halo MC Collection but when I press to get my reward it goes back to the previous interface of Microsoft Rewards. Anyone knows a fix or a place where I can get support by Microsoft?

    Where do I adjust my mic monitoring?

    I got a new controller today (just controller) and now my friends are complaining that my mic is too loud and if I talk too loudly there's a lot of feedback. They all told me to fix my mic monitoring and I cannot find it.

    I have no audio option under my settings, I have nothing to do with it under volume and audio output, I have nothing under the ease of access audio option and I have no voice option under preferences.

    I'm absolutely at the end of my patience with this, so if someone could help me I would really appreciate it.

    System Update E### error issues possible fix.

    So I found myself at wits end tryign to fix in my case E102, then 101, then 200, then 105 errors. Below is the method that worked to fix the issue. I also posted this in the xbox insiders sub where I found a couple people with comparable issues. My post was deleted because I apparently violated their "hardware modification restriction". Sigh. This issue may be specific to insiders but I see comparable reports dating back at least 4 years.

    1. You'll need to open up the xbox. The required tools are actually pretty simple. I do in full disclosure have a fully stocked garage and electronics toolset so I was able to do this on the fly where some may need to go pickup tools. I'll list below cheap tools to do the trick. I did use a drill and it worked perfectly. That said, using a drill on electronics is generally a horrible idea and takes some finesse. You can easily over torque or under torque without knowing. If you decide not to do this by hand please be cognizant of your torque levels. I pulled screws at full torque. I put them back in on a 2 and increase to a 4 where they didn't seem fully spun. Some of the screws were wedged in. I did initially start by hand. I didn't have the energy to do it all one by one though. Long story is I spent the last week in the hospital with an issue in the ICU and I am short on physical energy at the moment. Please be warned about the ribbon cable in the front. Didn't notice it till later. It was no big deal to reattach. I just didn't even realize it was there until I'd pulled the cover off already. I used https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-d6vuIjmyE for orientation purposes and to figure out which screws went back where. No extra work tracking is needed if you just reverse the work in the beginning of the video above. I reseated all of the long screws first and the rest were cake. Do not bother pulling the black screws that are shown in the video. They do not attach to anything that needs to be removed for what we're working on.
    2. Once all the screws are removed and the top and bottom cover are removed you should be able to pull the drive. The metal case will basically open like a clam. The drive is lover under the BluRay. Its screwed to a platform. Once the screws are off it slides off super easy. I happen to be in the middle of an update on an unraid server and shucked a bunch of external drives. I cannibalized the enclosures for this so I wouldn't need to power down my computer and it worked fine. If you aren't as lucky for parts laying around any laptop with a second drive port will work or turn off your desktop and add this in as a system drive. It was instantly recognized and opened multiple "drives" for the partitions.
    3. For the fix the only partition I cared about was "System Update" I didn't bother formatting. I did as recommended backup the entire partition before updating. There is where the OP on the walkthrough I found ran into permission issues. I did not have any issues with permissions. Everything just worked. I saw the files in the A folder were dated in October. The files from the update on the USB were November. Additionally, there was 1 file on the main folder in System Update that had a 0 size. I updated that file and the files in the A folder with the files from the downloadable USB update.
      1. The file in the main folder was called updater.xvd and had a size of 0 bytes. Once fixed it was aprox 83mb. This is as of Dec 8th so if your reading this down the road file sizes may have changed.
      2. In the "A" directory everything was dated 10/23/2019. There were 6 files. 3 of them matched files from the OSU1 update. They were SettingsTemplate.xvd, systemmisc.xvd, and SystemTools.xvd. None of the other OSU files matched up to anything I saw. I updated only those 3 files. Again, this is as of Dec 8th, if the update payload changes you may need to update/add other files.
      3. My assumption is that the "B" folder is a backup of a previous update and thus I made no changes to it.
    4. From there I sealed everything back up and attempted to boot. Initially it errored out. That's because it actually needed to redo the original failed update now. It defaulted to downloading on its own went through all 3 steps and now I'm looking at the normal GUI.

    Additional things to keep in mind. If you followed the now obviously asinine steps MS laid out to fix this and were probably as frustrated as I was with the issue you probably tried a factory reset. As a result, I had to reset the system settings when it finally came back up. My advice would be to use the miscrosoft.com/link option as that was a breeze relatively speaking. Also, much to my chagrin the system hadn't completed a full factory reset. Only settings were gone. Apps were still there oddly although they needed to reset themselves for a second. I just popped in Shadow of War and was greeted with a popup that it will take a min or two to setup. Oddly, that proved wrong and within 30 seconds it was reloading the game without actually needing to reinstall… praise XBOX.

    Conclusion: MS needs to fix this. What I had to do could be done with a batch file most likely. They tried to charge me something along the lines of $240 USD to send them my system and fix this. If we weren't less than a year from a new gen I might have actually just gone ahead and paid. If someone wants to do a batch file for this, I'll link to it. Also, I'm going to create a separate post with this to make it easier to find.

    Tool Suggestion: I have a little more intricate tool but for $10 this should work perfectly for anyone with delicate electronics.     Is this beyond repair?

    Brother poured about half a cup of my contact solution into the top vent of my Xbox One S while I was away from home, sat like that for at least 3 hours. I flipped it over and on multiple sides to let it drain and left it for 24 hours. I plugged it in and it's not working. Is there any hope in having a professional dismantle it and try to repair it or is it likely gone for good? (I won't be bothered if it is because that means I get a brand new Xbox fully paid for by him)
