My critical thoughts on the Back 4 Blood beta, viewed as a successor to Left 4 Dead. Posted: 06 Aug 2021 03:21 PM PDT I just finished playing it and it's not bad, but there are several things I don't like. I don't like that perks are locked to characters. If perks are around to stay, you should be free to choose whoever you want and choose from bonuses for them. It limits desired play styles and can force people to pick characters they don't like just for the bonuses that blend with their style. Speaking of characters, I'm sure I like the thought of a large cast with new cleaners being added. While added character choices are always nice, I feel like the personalities of the characters will suffer as a result. In L4D, you just had the four characters and tons of dialogue written in a dynamic way between them. Because there are so many now, it will become watered down. Everyone will have a little bit of dialogue, and you'll hear it all very quickly as long as you have a favorite character that you keep playing as (which is likely to happen with the bonuses being unique). I like the attachments, however there's no reason that you can't remove/swap attachments. I should have the option to pull attachments off of guns that I find lying around and put them on mine, at the very least. I also really like the card system, but I'm worried that it'll cause characters to become over specialized in such a way that it doesn't allow other players to do what they want. It also doesn't help that you can't see the cards someone else has. Say someone randomly joins your game with a molotov or shotgun specialisation and they can't see that the cards they already have. That leads to them picking cards that overlap with yours, causing you to fight over molotovs/shotguns. Not to mention the fact that it's not optimal to have two people specialize in the same role. Diversity and teamwork is the name of the game. On teamwork, it felt like it wasn't nearly as necessary as the L4D games. Due to the much lower rate of special infected and less hordes, not to mention less zombies in general, running off on your own is no big deal. Due to all of the factors listed, the game is also easier. I felt a huge difficult spike on the bridge level, but that might have been because I was playing with AI at the time. I felt like there wasn't a whole lot of variety. I saw a lot of items show up in the same spots, and special infected rarely seemed to show up outside of events. Really just feels like zombies scattered through the map fairly evenly. Also, maps feel very linear and don't encourage exploration and taking alternate paths to get to your goal. There weren't nearly as many open areas as L4D, which is disappointing as that meant more zombies. As mentioned, there were never nearly as many zombies as in either L4D game. It also feels like the huge enemy, the Ogre, will be limited to scripted events due to its large size and the limited spaces. That's disappointing as you won't have the panic moments of having to fight a surprise Tank in a location that's not ideal. There also didn't seem to be an ebb and flow to the gameplay, only maybe a couple swarms, and those were triggered by something you did. I don't recall any random moments where a horde randomly attacks and you have to hunker down and fight for your life until it ends. They said that an improved director would be instituted, however it didn't feel like it. I don't know if it's not complete or if they're trying to make the runs feel very similar so that they can get consistent feedback. I doubt either of those are true as this is mainly a technical test. Visually, the characters design feels a bit busy and generic. I'm not a fan of having models covered in blood, it makes it hard to distinguish from the zombies and environment in a split second. The maps are also unimpressive, both with being very linear and also having nothing really stand out. For the audio, nothing really stood out. I miss the audio cues and changes in music to set the mood in L4D. With so many characters, I don't think the dialogue between the characters can possibly be as varied as in L4D and will end up with a lot of dialogue repeating, which I've witnessed in the beta. The AI isn't that great, it's a huge downgrade from L4D. They're not that accurate (they frequently shot me) and they refuse to carry any items, including healing items. They would also walk into walls or do stupid things, such as shooting a car they're standing right next to, making it explode and take off half their health. I liked that you're able to quit in the middle of a run and have it save, however doing so makes you lose one of your three continues (which is used in the event of everyone dying). I don't mind that as it prevents quitting in a bad situation just to reset, but if you quit before you leave the safe room I believe that it shouldn't take one away from you. You're just taking a break from a game that can take a while and be mentally draining, and that's not something that should be punished. They said that they're not trying to make Left 4 Dead again. However with it being their only title (besides the failure of Evolve) and the obvious name reference to try to say that it's a spiritual successor, I don't think they have the right to downplay any disappointments fans have in regards to what they believe to be downgrades or missing features. Overall I think it's decently enjoyable, however it doesn't come close to capturing the magic of the previous games, specifically the first one (for me at least.) I doubt any of these things will change any time soon, which is disappointing. That's one reason why I'm happy for a Gamepass launch. When I heard about it at first I was worried it was coming there due to the publisher being worried about the sales, but we'll see what happens. I hope I'm wrong and that it becomes a massive success. [link] [comments]

Xbox users in the UK thinking of upgrading Posted: 06 Aug 2021 02:01 AM PDT I was recently lucky enough to grab myself a series x upgrading from the original Xbox one. I originally planned to trade my old Xbox in to lower the price of the series x but Because of where I managed to get it, that wasn't an option. So basically I just have an old Xbox lying around now. I was going to sell it but it's not worth much anymore with the Xbox s and x coming out after it. So I came across a charity called 'Get well Gamers' that's based in the UK that basically send out donated consoles and games etc to hospitals or similar for children to play on while they stay there. I know not everyone will be able to lose that trade in value but I've not seen this mentioned before so just wanted to highlight to the community, I would assume there's similar charities across Europe and US too. They list on the website what consoles and stuff they'll take so I would encourage you to check it out if you have an old console lying around. For me personally to know that my contribution might just help a kid get through even a few hours of a rough period of their lives is well worth the money I might get for it. As a disclaimer I'm in no way associated with them, I just wanted to highlight this to the community. [link] [comments]

"Walmart Beta" app allowed me to buy a series x. Posted: 06 Aug 2021 11:04 AM PDT Yesterday at 3pm est time walmart had the series x in stock that sold out in under 1 second. They released more every 10min. Someone on Twitter mentioned walmarts new app called walmart beta. Pretty sure it's just a new UI they are trying but it has a buy now option that helped me finally secure one at 3:40pm est. I just want to let anyone know to download the app and try it when walmart has them in stock again. Good luck guys and fuck these scalpers. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Aug 2021 07:33 PM PDT So I bought an Xbox One S (All Digital) its NOT a SERIES but just the Xbox One S, no blu ray drive. A youtuber pointed out that there is the 2nd SATA port inside for the bluray drive thats not included with this xbox. I really wanna soup it up for better performance so I WAS WONDERING if I can add a 128GB SSD to where the hard drive originally goes, could I add a full sized 2TB 3.5 inch 7200 RPM Hard Drive to that 2nd SATA Port?? (this is the limitation of the 2.5 inch drives, hard to find any 2TB 7200RPM drives in that format.) since there is no blu ray drive, I feel like in theory it could fit right there. But even if i have to mout it externally or source the power, I really just wanna know if I can use that 2nd SATA Port or not. [link] [comments]

Anyone have any good tips for cleaning a controller? Posted: 06 Aug 2021 01:06 PM PDT Every week I will clean my controller because I'm just like that. I feel like I haven't been doing a great job though. I take a toothpick and clean the joysticks with it and the sides of my triggers then I'll wipe it down. Anyone know what I can do to make my controller feel cleaner? [link] [comments]

My remote connection won't work Posted: 06 Aug 2021 04:00 PM PDT I use my cellphone as my 2nd controller with the app Xbstream, usually it would connect normally, but now it appears a warning message "The XBOX keeps blocking the stream! Try restarting it or wait" I already did that, checked if the "remote stream" option is on, and it's all ok, but the problem still there. Please, guys, save me and my pizza gaming night with my brooo. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Aug 2021 12:04 PM PDT It's supposed to come out in august but have no idea when exactly. Does anyone plan on picking it up? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Aug 2021 07:12 PM PDT For the past 3 weeks or so, my connection on the Xbox One S has been randomly disconnecting. It works, then disconnects for 15~ seconds, resulting in me losing connection to everything. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. I have a Telus T3200M router and use a wired connection. The disconnecting only seems to happen onto my Xbox, and not my phone, etc. Any help would be appreciated [link] [comments]

Game pass RPG recommendations? Posted: 06 Aug 2021 06:43 PM PDT I'm really in the mood to play Legend of Zelda Wind Waker but don't have a gamecube/wiiu or way to setup an emulator, so I'm hoping for a few good adventure style recommendations on game pass. [link] [comments]
