Wake the fuck up r/xboxone. It's the Cyberpunk 2077 megathread. [Spoilers]

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 05:49 AM PST

    Hey r/xboxone,

The time has come, we have all woken up and are ready to play the game of the year (for 2021 due to missing the date) that is Cyberpunk 2077. (Minor note, spoilers allowed in this thread)

Now I know the majority of you have probably made up your mind already if you are getting the game or not, for the select few that haven't decided there is a list of reviews below to give you an idea of what reviewers think of the game. Overall consensus is that the story is good, side quests are baller, and it plays like an RPG more then a shooter. Also there are some bugs, but not on the Fallout New Vegas level of bugs as far as I'm aware. Here are the reviews.

    IGN Review (Trailer gameplay)
    Gamespot Review (Personal gameplay)
    Engadget Review (Personal gameplay)
    PC Gamer Review (Personal gameplay)
Easy Allies Impressions after 30 hours (Trailer gameplay)
JuiceHead Review (Mixture of trailer and personal gameplay)
    WhatCulture Gaming Review (Trailer gameplay)
    YongYea Review (Trailer gameplay)

All right, now that we got the review part out of the way, on to the rules for the megathread. First off, spoilers are allowed here in so enter the comments at your own risk. Any talk or gameplay of the game must be kept in this megathread, if you are going to talk spoilers outside of this megathread then you must properly hide them like everywhere else on reddit. If you don't know how to format spoilers, check rule 5.

Any user that posts gameplay or spoilers outside of the megathread and doesn't properly mark/flair them as such will receive an immediate temporary ban and a perma ban if repeated. We will keep this policy for a month (January 9th), after that you can post without hiding the spoilers/tagging them.

This megathread will also be used as the bug megathread too. Any bugs you find, be sure to share them here for other users to see. If we see a consensus on a few that are gamebreaking like saves being corrupted we'll be sure to edit them into this post. Enjoy the game everyone and have fun burning Night City!

Edit: Getting reports that the preloaded Xbox version (not discs) includes the day one patch already. Will post tweet when officially confirmed by CDPR.

Thank you, Call of the Sea, for making my relationship with my wife substantially better.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 02:50 PM PST

Video games have always been a pain point for my marriage. Been married for 5 years now and I constantly get hassled for playing video games. I'll be the first to admit, I probably play a bit too much but my wife also admittedly gets irrationally unnerved by it. She claims it makes me somewhat of an adolescent in her mind sometimes which comes from a bit of a misnomer of video games in general and the stigma of the industry to the general public.

Over the years, we've made some compromises and she has never forced me to completely stop playing and did what she could to quell her frustration. I really thank her for that. I also tried to introduce her to some good couch coop games but nothing stuck.

Well I'm writing all of you now as she is sitting playing games for the 2nd day straight all thanks to Call of the Sea! Feels like a hell of a breakthrough. We talked about it nonstop at dinner and it seems like she was finally able to immerse herself in this world claiming, she felt as if she were a character in a pixar movie.

She mentioned she clearly had no idea video games stepped out of the world of first person COD-like shooters into something story or exploration driven. She says she totally understands the immersion and already asked me for similar games. I've downloaded the witness, edith finch, and yooka-laylee (she liked games like mario 64 when she was younger).

Anyway, BIG THANKS to the Call of the Sea devs for making such an approachable and fascinating game. You've opened a big door for my wife and I.

    EDIT: grammar

Do yourself a favor and hold off on Cyberpunk

I'm going to get absolutely flamed for this if the general internet discourse is any indication but I genuinely am just trying to help people on the fence after performance concerns have popped up this week. I've been hyped for this game like everyone else, and even after reviews went up early this week I've remained optimistic.

Context: I am generally forgiving of performance issues. I've played plenty of buggy games at launch from Bethesda titles to Ubisoft titles to CDPR's own Witcher 3. With rare exceptions I fall into the category of 'if the core experience is fun I can look past the bugs' and it's an attitude that has largely served me perfectly fine. I have played and enjoyed many games that people have considered to be 'broken' at launch. But Cyberpunk just isn't finished, to the point that it detracts from the game, and it genuinely sucks to say that. The core game seems very fun, but in the five hours that I played on my One X the amount of crashes and bugs I encountered genuinely ruined the experience. Textures are overall blurry, there's pop in happening constantly, and just moving around the world constantly makes me feel like I'm going to break the game to the point that I'm afraid to do basic shit. Sprinting causes the game to hitch for seconds at a time, or crash entirely. Almost every combat encounter I had that got remotely intense crashed the game. Talking to someone during a cutscene crashed the game. I experienced five crashes in as many hours, on top of the general jank that just seems to permeate every aspect of the game from NPC pathing to object clipping or quests just not working. Any time I began to get immersed I was totally pulled out by one of these issues, and it sucks because there's clearly an awesome game beneath all of this. With these sorts of issues on the One X I can't imagine what people with base consoles are experiencing.

I know that another delay would have been met with absolute outrage, but honestly Cyberpunk clearly needs some more time in the oven. I did the NZ region trick and after playing all morning I've cancelled my pre order. I'll check back in when things have been ironed out and I can't get my hands on a Series X, and I'd encourage those who are on the fence and who can handle waiting to do the same. This game doesn't deserve to be experienced under such subpar conditions.

Just played a few hours and it looks just as bad as those leaked videos from One S. I know it is a very limited hardware, but the amount of pop-in, dithering and frame drops is insane. Not sure if day one patch is already avaiable, though. Version is 1.0.0.6
