    Hey all!

We had to take a short break from here due to some restructuring of r/GamePassGameClub but we are now back with 2 GotM(Games of the Month) for Xbox and PC.

What is Game Pass Game Club? GPGC is a community focused subreddit built around inclusivity and playing a monthly Game Pass Game that is voted on, discussed, and played by the community! We partnered up with r/XboxOne in our early stages to give the community something new and fun to participate in as well as find some hidden gems offered by Game Pass. Feel free to stop by and discuss our 2 newest GotM NieR for Xbox and GRIS for PC! Here are some wikis about these games to get started and our please read before posting!

Xbox Series X and PS5 games at $70, Xbox Game Pass becomes even more valuable

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 01:18 PM PDT

For people defending NBA 2k21 charging 70 dollars due to inflation, here's what you're missing.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 05:53 PM PDT

I'm not making this post to attack anyone. I'm making this post because this topic really means so much to me. And I'm extremely surprised at how many people are defending 2k's decision. I know a lot of people with limited income, and most of my family live outside the U.S. And quite frankly, I think the next gen version of NBA 2k21 should be boycotted. More on that below.

In case you didn't know, the next NBA 2k21 will not do smart delivery. Instead, They will ask you to either pay 70 dollars for the next gen version. Or pay 99 dollars to get both versions.

A lot of people have defended the decision by pointing out that raising the price of games to 70 dollars is important due to inflation. Gaming has remained 60 dollars for two generations, and games used to cost a lot more (like the N64 era for example).

Here's why I think this is wrong:

First of all, let's discuss inflation. While it's true that the price of AAA gaming has remained 60 dollars for a long while now. It's important to note that plenty of gaming companies have more than made up for inflation using other methods.

First of all, we have microtransactions. Not only is microtransactions a massive success for gaming companies. Gaming companies can sometimes make billions of dollars from mtx alone (https://www.tweaktown.com/news/57475/ea-earns-1-68-billion-microtransactions-fy2017/index.html)

Think about that for a second. Gaming companies were able to make make more than a billion dollars without having the need to create new games. This is the reason why we have free to play games such as Apex Legends, Call of duty mobile, and Call of duty warzone. These franchises represent big names and would easily sell. But companies decided to make them free to play since mtx coming from free to play games makes them a lot more money than we can ever imagine.

In addition to mtx and predatory practices, I also like to remind people that the number of gamers have also increased dramatically since the n64 era. Not only that, but Covid has also increased the number of gamers dramatically. Games like Doom eternal, Animal Crossing, and more have sold really well as more people are stuck at home. More people are now playing online games (such as NBA 2k21) than before. The same can't be said about other companies and businesses that had to shut down and layoff people.

That doesn't even count subscription services, 80 dollars deluxe editions of games that normally include content that should be free, season passes, and games launching as buggy or incomplete messes.

If game development costs are impacted by inflation, then why are gaming companies seeing a massive rise in revenue. Why should I feel sympathy for AAA game developers when they are making more money than we can ever imagine: https://www.polygon.com/2019/2/12/18222096/blizzard-layoffs-february-2019 and https://esportsobserver.com/ea-q4-fy2019-results/)

Why NBA 2k21 deserves to be boycott?

Now in addition to all the above, there are a couple of reasons exclusive to NBA 2k that deserve talking about.

First, I wanna remind people that NBA 2k series in particular is known for having terrible predatory practices already that seem anti consumer. This is the same game that forces unskippable ads in it ( https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2019/10/28/nba-2k20-ads-unskippable/ ). This is the same franchise that's known for having pay to win elements.

Also, gamers argue that games are getting more expensive due to the rising costs of development. May I ask how is that impacting the NBA 2k series? May I ask what kind of innovations did the series have that deserves a massive increase in development costs. Like a lot of sport games, the game is pretty much the same kind of game with only a slight change of graphics every year. Sometimes you get a new mode or so, but for the most part. It's the same game with only roster changes and more lighting code.

At least the games are stable though.

    Oh wait: https://www.tomsguide.com/news/is-nba-2k20-really-as-bad-as-players-are-saying

Now look, I know some people love the series and can't wait to play the newest release. But if you really can't wait, you can at least boycott the next gen version. It's not like 2k has given explanation of how the next gen version differs from the current one. Why would you pay 10 dollars extra when you don't know what do you get. or if it's even stable at launch.

Remember, if you buy the next gen version of the game. You're encouraging other developers to do the same. We should always strive to make console gaming more accessible, not the opposite. Imagine how many people will skip next gen if AAA 70 dollars becomes a standard for next gen.

You don't owe AAA gaming companies anything, it's not like they're struggling.

[REQUEST] Mods, can we please get 'Servers Down' megathreads?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 07:33 PM PDT

Given how often servers go down, and how the sub gets flooded with posts and comments related to the issues, could we please get megathreads so users have a single place to discuss downtime durations, workarounds to get things like party chat to work, etc.? This way, we'd have a place to bitch and/or propose solutions without discussions being scattered across the sub, interfering with other content.

Edit: if megathreads were to be pinned to the top of the sub during the outage, people would be much more likely to congregate there.

Xbox Game Pass keeps dust on my switch and PS4

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 08:14 PM PDT

Because of the Game Pass on Xbox I hardly ever touch my other consoles. I literally just purchased both PS4 and switch within 6 months ago yet I can't stop playing Xbox . Such great value and amazing games constantly being added. PsNow doesn't even come close.

NBA 2K21 - Next gen Price Increase Confirmed. 59.99 for Xbox One, 69.99 for Series X

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 08:37 AM PDT

    From the press release today:

"...NBA 2K21 is a monumental leap forward for the franchise," stated Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts. "We're combining all of our experience and development expertise to craft the best game possible and for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, we are building the game from the ground up to take full advantage of next-gen power and technology."

This year, NBA 2K21 will offer two editions of the game on digital and physical formats - standard and a special Mamba Forever Edition. NBA 2K21 will be available for $59.99** on current-generation platforms; the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X version of NBA 2K21 will be available for $69.99.** NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition will be available for $99.99 for both current and next-generation platforms.** It includes dual-access where purchasing Mamba Forever Edition on either current or next-generation platforms provides a copy of the standard edition game on the other generation at no additional cost, within the same console family. A full breakdown of pre-order details is available at https://nba.2k.com/buy/standard-next-gen/

So this shows a couple things: Not All publishers are doing Smart Delivery and some will be selling you their highest version for both copies of the game like here.

Honestly I am good with paying 69.99 for next gen games, as I feel we are due another price increase since that last one was back when 360 launched in 2005. Especially with the higher costs for game development these days i can understand it.

    What's everyone's thoughts?
