Dying Light 2 is a "total mess", developers worried about the story and gameplay

    Posted: 06 May 2020 09:05 AM PDT

Today, a new report about Dying Light 2 from Polish website Polskigamedev.pl claims that the game is currently in development hell while the Techland developers are crunching to fix all the issues and bugs before the launch.

Polskigamedev say that several Techland employees talked to them about the morale in the company, which is currently very low due to many development problems and lack of leadership within the team.

"There is a total mess. The plot direction, gameplay direction, mechanics' fundamental rules change constantly. The morale is at an all-time low because they (boss - editor's note) have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Disorganization at the highest levels is embarrassing, it is still not known what this game should be," one Techland employee said, roughly translated by Google.

Spotify no longer connecting from phone to Xbox

    Posted: 06 May 2020 03:27 PM PDT

Anyone else having problems? I've reinstalled the app on my phone. I've reinstalled in on my Xbox. Hard reset. No go.

It sees the Xbox and stays in "connecting" mode.

Never had this sort of issue before. Am I the only one having problems right now or are there other server side issues?

Enjoying some Kinect gems during quarantine

    Posted: 06 May 2020 05:40 PM PDT

During Quarantine I've been trying to find ways to keep moving and active in the house, and decided to see if there were any interesting Kinect games I've missed out on since it was buried by Microsoft.

I am one of the few people who still has their Kinect hooked up and uses it almost every day (voice commands/OneGuide), and lamented its anemic library and abandonment.

For those that still have their Kinects hooked up, I've discovered / rediscovered some games that use the Kinect in seriously impressive ways that remind you of what Kinect really was capable of.

    FRU

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f_3NDVvX04

Definitely one of the most interesting uses of Kinect ever, FRU is a Braid-esque 'platformer' where you control a character on screen with your controller, while positioning your physical body to reveal or hide platforms, walls, obstacles, and items. Can be played with 1 or 2 players, 1 person controlling the on-screen character and the other contorts themselves to create a path, or you can do both yourself.

    Fantasia: Music Evolved

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyLwPIXhX-o

Widely regarded as 'the best' Kinect game, Fantasia is a Music/Rhythm game that has you 'conducting' the music with body movement and gestures, like the classic Disney movie. The gameplay is surprisingly complex and accurate, allowing you to remix songs in real time, and improvise your own additions to the music.

Interestingly, Fantasia isn't sold on the Xbox store anymore, so you'll have to buy it on disc. I found it on Amazon for $12.

    Shape Up

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m21pUSP1IBI

This is the game I'm currently playing the most. Some of the most fun use of Kinect I've seen; it places a realtime 3D scanned version of you in the game world, creates ghost avatars of you to compete against your past times, and has a variety of exercises, from cardio to planking to ab crunches, with & without weights.

This game actually FEELS like a workout, but the arcadey graphics and objectives keep you entertained and motivated. It has varied plans and goals for you to achieve daily / weekly, laid out as quests. Supports 2 players and has lots of minigames. Seriously impressed with how the tech is used and the presentation on this one, I've been doing the quests daily and have been having a blast with it.

    Beatsplosion

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ0WUS3emGg

After Fantasia I was looking for another rhythm oriented game, and this one looks like Beat Saber so I wanted to give it a shot. This game isn't as intense of a workout as Shape Up, but I did break a sweat after a few rounds. Overall I think this game is OK, but the variety of workouts and music isn't very high, and the timing seems off and there is no way to adjust it (Fantasia you can adjust the audio/video timing and it feels much more natural in that game). If you are looking for something like Beat Saber, this is vaguely close, but overall found a lack of variety and accuracy holds this one back.

    Honorable Mentions

    Kinect Sports Rivals

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JKFzM8djmk

The presentation in this game is amazing, and the face scanner to create your avatar is really impressive. Most of the minigames are surprisingly accurate and engaging to play. That said, since this game isn't really a good workout, and the minigames get old after playing a couple times, there's little reason to come back after the novelty wears off.

    D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26nCkxDqpGU

This game is like an old school point & click adventure, where you explore rooms and interact with items to find clues, advance and uncover the game's mystery. There were some fun moments with this one but like Kinect Sports Rivals, just feels like a clunkier version of a game that you could play with a controller.

Any other Kinect fans in here with any cool Kinect games they've played?
