HOWTO: Keep your Xbox 360 hard drive saves alive (fighting Data Degradation)

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 01:23 PM PDT

[Data Degradation (bit rot, data rot)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_degradation) is when then integrity of bits stored on magnetic storage media decays to the point where the drive is unable to determine the value stored. This happens over time with most forms of storage media. Hard drives can decay in as early as 5-10 years.

I posted this to the original xbox reddit 3 years ago; but as it so happens, the xbox 360 is now about 16 years old (mine is a bit newer, from 2008). That means that the data on these hard drives may be 10+ years old, putting our saves at risk of loss. As such, I decided to "refresh" the data on my hard drive.

To do this, I hooked up the hard drive to my Windows PC using a USB to SATA adapter (you can hook it up internally too, since it's SATA).

Once Windows recognized the drive, I ran the program "[DiskFresh](http://www.puransoftware.com/DiskFresh.html)". It's a simple program the re-writes (with the same data) all the data on the drive. This process took about an hour on a 60GB drive. Just select the RAW xbox 360 drive (you'll have to tell by the size) and hit "Refresh Selected" -> "Just Refresh". It'll also report any unreadable sectors.

After that, I reinstalled the drive and everything worked fine. I don't need to worry about my xbox 360 saves for another 10 years (here's hoping the mechanical components in the HDD don't fail).

    Can’t update 360

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 09:29 PM PDT

I dug out my old 360 and tried to update. Fails every time. I can't access any of my downloaded games or dlc. And I get a status code 4497-0000-3080-0506-8007-2EE2 Anyone have an idea on how I can fix this? I've tried clearing the memory cashe. I completely deleted all profiles except my xbl one. There is more than enough room on my HD. (90g) I tried the rollback. I've heard of putting the update on a usb drive but not sure where to find the update online.

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Save Data keeps corrupting

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 09:12 PM PDT

I dont know if this is a good place to ask this, but why does my Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Save Data keep corrupting? I dont do anything to the save data or hard drive but it keeps corrupting. It corrupts even if I dont leave the game. I leave multiplayer to go to zombies and when j go back to multiplayer it still says it corrupted. I dont know why and it keeps happening. Please someone explain why it keeps doing this.

    Thanks.

OG Xbox star wars games not backwards compatible?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 06:38 PM PDT

I recently acquired a number of original Xbox games, most notably Halo CE and 2, as well as Battlefront 2 and Republic Commando. Using a hard drive i am able to play Halo CE and 2 on my 360, but whenever I try to start up Battlefront or Republic Commando it tells me that they are not supported, and the xbox website no longer has any helpful information. Anybody know how to help?

I have some questions about the Sims 3...(Xbox 360)

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 01:36 PM PDT

I have some questions for those who have played the Sims 3 on the Xbox 360. 1) Is there a limit on how many saves we can have in one account? 2) Is there a limit on how many items we can have on "my studio?"

    Any help would be appreciated.

Why is black ops 2 multiplayer web application firewall have not been patch up to deal with hackers and modders?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 12:55 PM PDT

There so many hackers in black ops 2 multiplayer. Black ops 2 appear to be dead. But black ops 1, black ops 3, and black ops 4 does not seem to have hackers and modders. I just want to play black ops 2 multiplayer without worrying about getting hack.

Question about flash drive recovery of Xbox 360 saves

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 11:26 AM PDT

I have an 8GB flash drive from the Xbox 360 days that I accidentally formatted and put about 30mb of files on. It was a complete 8GB flash drive at one point, and I only replaced about 30mb of files before I realized. I had heard about file recovery of USB sticks, and I was going to drop the money to do so, but I wanted to know if there was any chance of having an incomplete header file or something of the sort that would not allow the files to be recovered properly, and if so, would there be any way to fix it? I apologize for my lack of technical knowledge. My brother and I would really like to have our childhood back. Respond with any help. Thanks.

My game set up back in the day. Cut myself because I wanted set up to be the discussion. Console wasn’t plugged in at the time (in family room ) but I usually gamed on this apex crt and spent my entire 2007- like a year after games with gold launched using silver.
