Anyone Else Lose Their Digital License For Outer Wilds?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 11:00 AM PDT

Outer Wilds recently disappeared from my console's "ready to install." I originally received the game from the E3 MixPot back in 2018. I think between that and the recent Store upgrade, Xbox is confused on whether or not I own the game.

The website version of the Microsoft Store says I own it, but my console tells me that I can "buy to own" for $19.99 (discounted due to Game Pass).

Anyone else experiencing this with Outer Wilds or another game? For anyone who got it from the MixPot like me, I highly suggest checking your console's ready to install library to see if it's still there.

Right now, I can play Outer Wilds because I'm subscribed to Game Pass. But if I wasn't, I'm not sure if I still could.

    Tribute to X11 Caboose

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 02:01 PM PDT

Thank you Xbox. While social media does a great job of shortening distances and bringing people together as no other technology has, I have found video games to be my haven to socialize and have . In particular, through Xbox I have solidified many of my personal acquaintances into strong friendships. My best friend, tag X11 Caboose, passed away this weekend after an almost 3 year fight with AML (cancer). While we were good friends in person, it was when we found out we both played Halo 4 on '360 nearly 8 years ago that we became, in all respects, true brothers. Through high school, summers, and college, though miles separated us, we bonded over video games. We died countless times in each Dark Souls game, Fus Ro Dah'd our way across Skyrim, replayed missions endlessly in the hopes of getting 400 light equipment on Destiny, took the leaderboards in Battlefield games by storm, saved up 6 seasons worth of free V-bucks to buy the battle-pass in Fortnite starting from season 1 defaults (over 100 duos wins at the time fyi), and spent way too much time taming dinosaurs in Ark. Our greatest joy came from the Halo franchise however (yes X11 Caboose is referencing Caboose from Red vs Blue). Over the course of his two+ years of chemo treatments, we played through every game in MCC on legendary, collecting skulls and terminals along the way. While Halo 5 was somewhat disappointing, we tea-bagged that Warden dude, pushed to Onyx ranking in breakout, and laughed mercilessly in our Hannibal Scorpions during Warzone. However, across all 6 major Halo FPS titles (we don't talk about ODST) our favorite thing to do was to hop in a warthog, him driving and I on the turret. A few days before he passed, X11 Caboose and I drove across the exploding ring in Halo (final mission of Halo 3). We bumped fists, and that was the last time I had the privilege to play with the greatest Halo nerd, teammate, and friend.

All in all, as one by one my Xbox friends slowly go offline for good, X11 Caboose for the last time, I just want to thank the Xbox community for some of the greatest memories and moments. No matter how badly your friend messes up the puzzle, leaves your back open to enemy fire, or does some other stupid stuff, enjoy each game and match for what it is.

    ONI Directive 930.

    Rest in Power X11 Caboose.

PS: I've linked a Video of some of me and Caboose's best moments. Definitely not a quality video, contains many inside jokes, and I wouldn't be surprised if YouTube does some copyright stuff and takes it down, but Caboose liked it.

HDR calibration has been a game changer

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 03:19 PM PDT

A few years ago I decided to vastly improve my gaming setup (albeit on a bit of a budget). I had an OG Xbox One and a puny 28in(I think) 720p tv to play it on. So I decided to pick up the Xbox One X and a new TCL 55inch TV. This changed everything for me and made my gaming experience that much better. But I've had a bit of an issue getting hdr to work quite right. Dark areas in games were either to dark to the point of any dark areas are almost completely black(Playing Destiny 2 was difficult in dark areas) or I'd have to jack the brightness way up to the point everything was washed out. I figured I got what I payed for with a cheap tv and I was paying the price.

I just downloaded the new calibration tool and it has made a huge difference in how my games look. I decided to load up Call of Duty's campaign level Piccadilly and it was so dark but not to the point of losing detail, and the flame around me had a nice glow that really added to the atmosphere. Thank you Microsoft!

Edit: so it would appear that this has been added last month as part of the insider program. I just remember looking at apps, downloading some hdr calibration app(not even realizing it was an official app) and saw it later in my picture settings.

Absolutely Love Remnant From The Ashes on Gamepass

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 09:40 PM PDT

I went on a search to find a game to replace The Division 2. Division 2 was my escape from the world be in my own place game. As a dad with two kids to have a place to escape to is important for my sanity. The Division 2 was that place but I am increasingly unhappy with the Developer interference with my "happy place".

I had begun this search a week and a half ago and spent a few days asking friends for suggestions on a game that could become my escape from reality. No one had any suggestions for games I hadn't played before. There was a twitch stream on the front page of twitch of someone playing Remnant. I thought I had seen this game on gamepass and thought I'll check it out.

I played the "training" or introductory mission and didn't think much of the game but thought I will try for a little bit longer.

I fucking LOVE this game. It's my daily driver at the moment and I don't understand how it had never been on my radar before. I bought the survival DLC and look forward to playing remnant every night.

    Thanks Gunfire Games.
