Posted: 19 Mar 2021 09:43 PM PDT This is one of those questions that may not necessarily have a good answer but hey, maybe I'll learn something. I'm in my 30s and stopped keeping up with current gaming in the DC/PS2/Xbox era, for a variety of reasons. I picked up a 360 a couple years ago from a family giving away a bunch of stuff before a move. Last year I got the urge to revisit Half Life 2 so I got a copy of The Orange Box and away I went. I play on a 24" Sony Trinitron (KV-24FS120) seated not too far away, maybe 7', hooked up via component cable. I've got a pretty good view. However I'm noticing playability really varies when it comes to this display.
I guess what I'm asking is - was there ever any official statements made during the console's lifespan where Microsoft declared that going forward, games would be designed for the 16:9 standard so upgrade your TVs or gtfo? Or is it just a YMMV deal where playability depends more on the type of game and how vital it is to clearly see fine details? [link] [comments]

Looking for Repair Advice: Red Dot of Death Returns after closing Console Posted: 19 Mar 2021 08:46 AM PDT Hi, I'm looking for some advice on what to do after the red dot of death returned to an Xbox 360 S I reflowed... after I closed the console shell. So I bought a lot of 3 broken 360s to repair, and one of them was this white 360 S (4gb, no hard drive), that would either boot into a screen with glitched visuals around white spots, or would light with a red dot and go into an error E82 screen. I looked online and found that either the GPU was damaged or needed to be reflowed, so I figured I'd give reflowing it a shot. After taking apart the console, cleaning with isopropyl alcohol, and removing the heatsink/themal paste (also cleaned the CGPU well with isopropyl), I performed a reflow following a tutorial from Borderline OCD on Youtube. 1 min back of board heating, 1 min front board, apply flux to CGPU and Southbridge, 30 seconds general heating, then 90 seconds focused on the CGPU (all at 350 degrees Celcius). After that, I let it cool for an hour or so, before putting new thermal paste, and putting the heatsink back on, and putting it back in the shielding with the disk drive and hard drive bay. After this process, I plugged the console into my TV, and it worked, no problem! Loaded up Black Ops II, and it was working fine. So I put it back together the next day and... red dot again, error E82. I all I did was put the shell back together, so I'm not sure what I could have messed up since then. I plan on trying a more intense reflow before giving up, but I just wanted to check if anyone had any insight they could give me. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Mar 2021 08:25 AM PDT So basically I have one game ( need for speeds:rival) and it just doesn't get rad. Xbox says play game and just tries to load something and then get back to where it started [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Mar 2021 02:48 AM PDT Hi! I've spoken to Xbox support and they forwarded me to rockstar, I've searched online but struggling. I purchased San Andreas roughly in 2013/2014 on the 360, it was the OG Xbox edition as they hadn't released the 360 version digitally yet from what I remember. They then upgraded the purchase to the 360 version, and I earned achievements and could play on my Xbox one too via BC. It looks like somehow it's gone back to the OG Xbox version, and I've lost progress and can't unlock achievements etc. When I've searched for San Andreas on the store, it brings up the 360 version to purchase. Anyone else had this, and know how to go about it? [link] [comments]
